Twenty Questions with Greedy Gourmet
This week’s featured foodie, Michelle of Greedy Gourmet, was an easy choice with her mouth-watering food photography and delicious recipes. Michelle also holds fun giveaways on her site with prizes that are worth winning – although it’s the simple and inviting layout of her site that won us over! Be sure to visit her – she’ll soon become one of your favorites, too!

How long have you had a food blog (or other foodie type site)?
My blog, Greedy Gourmet, was launched in March 2007 but I only started blogging regularly September 2007; so more or less 2 years.
How would you describe your site to new readers?
If you’re looking for (mostly) easy family recipes, this is it. Recipes are helpfully categorized into e.g. cooking times, special diets, by course and even by national cuisine. There really is something for everyone. Weekly reviews are written on products and services that are available in the UK and giveaways organized to loyal readers.
What made you decide to start your site?
First of all, I had to learn how to cook when I came to the UK because there just aren’t any good restaurants close to where I live. Secondly, my husband suggested it. And lastly, for some time I have been reading some food blogs and thought: I can do better!
Is there any personal meaning behind the name?
My husband thought of the name. I’m a tad (okay, a lot) on the snobbish side when it comes to food but when the perfect dish is placed in front of me there is no stopping me demolishing the whole lot!

What advice do you have for new bloggers?
Good writing is a definite plus point for a food blog but if your photos are ridiculously bad no one will be the least bit tempted. My advice? Invest in a DSLR camera and a proper lens or two and get your photographic skills up to scratch. Pronto!
What’s the best thing about being a food blogger?
You never get stuck in a rut food-wise. Always trying out new recipes and living life adventurously, even if there’s a flop or two along the journey. It’s great to meet other food bloggers! PR companies also started noticing the blog and I’d be lying if I said I’m not enjoying a freebie here and there.
What the worst?
Eating cold food after a photo shoot. When the photos are a cock-up you have to make the dish again and again and again until you get it right by which time you’re pretty fed up of the dish! Food styling can also be frustrating.
What food blog inspires you the most?
Oh, there are so many. Photography wise latartinegourmande.

What camera do you use?
My first one was Canon 350D, then 400D. Now Canon 5D. :-D
Do you have any formal training in the field of cooking?
I wish! It’s all trial and error for me.
Do you watch a lot of cooking on TV?
Nope. I get bored plus I’d rather be cooking than watch someone else doing so.
How challenging has it been to find a loyal reader base?
It is an ongoing challenge although I’m glad to say my subscription numbers are climbing steadily. After 2 years I’m still struggling to find my authentic voice, often wondering whether I’m giving away too much information or being too crude. It really is a balancing act.
What types of food do you enjoy preparing most?
Real food – food that most people crave at the end of a hard day. Especially saucy ones like meltingly tender meaty stews that have been in the oven for hours or creamy casseroles.
Do you have a signature dish or two?
Not really but I can never have enough Braised Oxtail in Red Wine or Slow Cooked Lamb Shanks.

Favorite kitchen gadget?
A good quality sharp knife and my hand blender for soups.
If you could choose to be any food, what would it be?
None? I don’t like the idea of being eaten…
If you could banish just one food from the earth, what would it be?
Just one? Processed meat, e.g. Polony, Salami, Chorizo, Black Pudding, etc.
What’s the one super power you wish you had?
The ability to have more hours in a day to get more work done.
What’s your favorite thing about “Refrigerator Soup”?
Quality. Instead of posting photos of every Tom, Dick and Harry’s food a few are cherry picked every day. Less to sift through.
